74-year-old Bros has confirmed his resignation as head coach of the South African national team.

After leading the South African national team to a historic first-ever World Cup knockout stage appearance, 74-year-old Belgian coach Hugo Bross has officially confirmed his resignation, ending the suspense surrounding his potential retention.

Bros had expressed his desire to retire before the start of the final tournament. Although he wavered and indicated he might stay on after South Africa's defeat to Canada in the round of 32 on June 28, he ultimately decided to leave the position.

In an interview with Belgian media, Bros made it clear: "Will I continue to be a coach? No, it's irreversible! If they need me to do something else, like scouting, that's another matter. But football will no longer be a part of my 24-hour life."

Broos has coached the South African national team for five years, making him the country's longest-serving coach, and helped the team return to the World Cup after a 16-year absence. Although he is no longer the head coach, he has indicated that he may continue to provide assistance as an advisor or consultant.

“I have spoken with the president of the South African Football Federation. He wants to keep me, but in a different role, such as an advisor. I will return to South Africa at the end of July for a final farewell,” Bross added.

Regarding his life after retirement, Bros humorously mentioned that while his wife was happy he was no longer a coach, she also warned him not to get in his way. He said that going to South Africa for a few weeks every two months as a consultant would be better than staying at home doing nothing.
