Warriors finalize agreement for Vogel to join coaching staff as assistant head coach to assist Kerr

July 13th - According to ESPN , the Golden State Warriors have reached an agreement with veteran NBA coach Frank Vogel . He will serve as the team's lead assistant coach, assisting head coach Steve Kerr .

The 53- year -old Vogel has coached four NBA teams , serving a total of 12 seasons as head coach. In 2020 , he led the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA championship and also led the Indiana Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2013 and 2014 .

Vogel's most recent NBA head coaching stint was with the Phoenix Suns in the 2023-24 season. The Suns finished the regular season with a 49-33 record , but were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves, after which their partnership ended.

For the past two seasons, Vogel has worked on the Dallas Mavericks' coaching staff, initially as a consultant and later on the bench to participate in the team's daily coaching work.

It is understood that after joining the Warriors, Vogel is expected to focus on designing the team's defensive system and formulating game strategies. Previously, the Warriors' defense was mainly handled by Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse , both of whom left the team in the offseason. Longtime assistant coach Chris DeMarco also left the team in January of this year to become the head coach of the New York Liberty.
