Schalke 04 confirmed on Thursday that 25-year-old Austrian striker Junior Adamu has transferred from Freiburg to join the team. The two sides signed a three-year contract, valid until June 30, 2029.
According to the German newspaper Bild, Adamu's transfer fee is approximately 800,000 euros.
Adamu struggled after joining Freiburg for €6 million in July 2023, contributing only 7 goals and 4 assists in 67 appearances. Since joining Celtic on loan in January of this year, he has made 6 appearances in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist, helping the team win the Scottish Premiership title.
With his form remaining stagnant, Celtic did not activate Adamu's €5 million buy-out clause this summer. Nevertheless, Schalke remains confident in Adamu.
Regarding Adamu's signing, Schalke's sporting director, Yuri Mulder, explained: "Junior's arrival strengthens the team, and he fits our tactical philosophy perfectly. He is very active off the ball and often provides more options for his teammates by making quick forward runs. Junior is a team player who can showcase his strengths in multiple attacking positions and different tactical systems."
Adamu himself stated, "Every conversation made me understand why the coach and club management wanted me to be a part of the team. The club's trust and clear tactical philosophy ultimately led me to join Schalke and fight alongside their passionate fans."
