Leicester City have confirmed the signing of Alex McCarthy, with both parties formally reaching a two-year cooperation agreement.

Leicester City have officially announced the successful signing of Alex McCarthy. The experienced goalkeeper joined as a free agent, with the transfer still pending EFL approval. He has signed a two-year contract and will immediately participate in pre-season training to prepare for the new season.  

Alex McCarthy, 36, has a wealth of professional experience, having played in both the Premier League and Championship for a long time. His arrival will bring more stability and competition to Leicester City's goalkeeping position. For the past decade, Alex McCarthy has played for Southampton, helping the team return to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs in the 2023/24 season.  

Speaking about joining Leicester City, Alex McCarthy said: "I am delighted to join the Leicester City family. It is a club with a glorious history and a clear vision for the future. In my interactions with the team, I sensed their desire for success and their long-term development plans, which further convinced me that Leicester City was the right choice to start a new chapter in my career."

Alex McCarthy was born in Guildford, England, and began his football career at the young age of Reading through their youth academy. After several loan spells, he gradually improved his skills and eventually made it into Reading's first team. Subsequently, Alex McCarthy played for Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace before finally transferring to Southampton in 2016, marking an important stage in his professional career.  

During his time at Southampton, Alex McCarthy gradually became an important member of the team's goalkeeping position, making over 150 appearances and accumulating extensive first-team experience. His consistently strong performances also attracted the attention of the England national team, earning him his first-team debut in 2018.  

Leicester City have stated that the arrival of Alex McCarthy will further enhance the team's competitiveness in the goalkeeping position, bringing more experience and security to the squad. As preparations for the new season gradually unfold, fans are expected to witness the new signing's debut in the Foxes' jersey in the pre-season friendly against Genoa on August 1st.
