Leicester City have officially announced the successful signing of Alex McCarthy. The experienced goalkeeper joined as a free agent, with the transfer still pending EFL approval. He has signed a two-year contract and will immediately participate in pre-season training to prepare for the new season.
Alex McCarthy, 36, has a wealth of professional experience, having played in both the Premier League and Championship for a long time. His arrival will bring more stability and competition to Leicester City's goalkeeping position. For the past decade, Alex McCarthy has played for Southampton, helping the team return to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs in the 2023/24 season.

Alex McCarthy was born in Guildford, England, and began his football career at the young age of Reading through their youth academy. After several loan spells, he gradually improved his skills and eventually made it into Reading's first team. Subsequently, Alex McCarthy played for Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace before finally transferring to Southampton in 2016, marking an important stage in his professional career.
During his time at Southampton, Alex McCarthy gradually became an important member of the team's goalkeeping position, making over 150 appearances and accumulating extensive first-team experience. His consistently strong performances also attracted the attention of the England national team, earning him his first-team debut in 2018.
