Freiburg officially announce the signing of Como's German defensive midfielder Yannik Engelhardt..

Freiburg announced on their official website on Saturday that they have signed German defensive midfielder Yannik Engelhardt from Como.

According to Freiburg's official statement, due to a confidentiality agreement, the club will not disclose the validity of Engelhardt's contract length. He will also wear the number 16 jersey.

It's worth mentioning that this is actually Engelhardt's second stint with Freiburg.

Previously, he played for the Bundesliga club on-loan from 2021 to 2023.

After completing his transfer procedures, Engelhardt, who was interviewed by the Freiburg official website again, said: "My connection with the club, whether with the players or the management, has never been broken. It feels great to be back in Freiburg; I received a warm welcome. There's a strong drive here, which I love, and I can't wait to get started."

About Yannik Engelhardt

The 25-year-old Engelhardt was born on February 7, 2001, in Göttingen, Germany. He is 1.84 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder.

Engelhardt played for the youth academies of two non-league clubs in Göttingen during his childhood. He joined Werder Bremen's youth academy in 2015 and began playing for their reserves in 2019.

From 2021 to 2023, Engelhardt played on-loan at Freiburg, primarily for their reserves.

In July 2023, Engelhardt moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf for €600,000. During his time at the club, he helped the team achieve a surprising run to the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.

The following August, Engelhardt joined Como for €8 million.

In the summer of 2025, Engelhardt was loaned-out to Borussia Mönchengladbach. During his time there, he helped Die Fohlen avoid relegation.

During his time at Como, Engelhardt made 26 appearances for the Serie A dark horse in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
