Caraban reflects on Summer League performance: Hopes to bring the UConn championship culture to the Kings

July 24 - Sacramento Kings rookie Alex Caraban recently gave an interview, reflecting on his performance in the NBA Summer League and discussing his adaptation after joining the team .

Caraban was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft . Caraban stated that a key factor for team success that is most easily overlooked is a sense of responsibility. He believes that mutual accountability and open communication among teammates are essential for building stronger team cohesion.

“ If we can hold each other to high standards and take responsibility, it will make us more united, ” Caraban said. He believes that many players today are afraid to express their true thoughts, but a truly competitive environment requires honesty among teammates.

Furthermore, Caraban hopes to bring the championship culture established during his time at UConn to the Kings. He stated that UConn head coach Dan Hurley maintained the same standards every day, regardless of the team's wins or losses or the players' form, demanding that players not only remain focused on the field but also demonstrate professionalism off the field.

At the beginning of the Summer League, Caraban's performance was hampered by an ankle injury, going 0- for -6 against the Clippers and scoring only 4 points against the Nets. However, he then scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds against the Celtics, shooting 5 - for -7 from three-point range . Against the Hornets, he added 14 points and hit two three-pointers.

Throughout the Summer League, Calaban averaged 27.5 minutes per game, scoring 10 points, grabbing 3.8 rebounds, and dishing out 1.4 assists. As he gradually regains his shooting touch, the rookie is proving his potential to adapt to the pace of the NBA and contribute to the Kings.
