Newcastle United left-back Matt Targett officially joins Hull City on a free transfer..

Hull City announced on their official website on Thursday that Newcastle United's English left-back Matt Targett has joined the club on a free transfer.

According to Hull City's official statement, Targett has signed on a three-year contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2029, with an option to extend for a further year. He will also wear the number 13 shirt.

After completing his transfer procedures, Targett, who was interviewed by the Hull City official website for the first time, said: "I'm very happy to be here. Just on Saturday night, during England's match, my agent called me and said Hull City were interested in me."

"The next minute, I was on the phone with the manager. He's put a lot of effort into the club and speaks with great passion, so it didn't take much persuasion to convince me to join."

"After speaking with players who have played here before, they all speak very highly of the club, so joining was a natural progression for me."

"It will be a huge challenge, but we can draw a lot of confidence from Sunderland and Leeds United's performances last season."

"I'm now at an age where I feel I have enough experience to pass on my Premier League experience to players who haven't experienced this environment. I hope I can make a big impact in the dressing room."

About Matt Targett

The 30-year-old Targett was born on September 18, 1995, in Eastleigh, England. He is 1.83 meters tall, plays as a left-back, and has Scottish ancestry.

Targett joined Southampton's youth academy at the age of 8 and made his first-team debut in August 2014 against Millwall in the League Cup.

In January 2018, Targett was loaned-out to Fulham. During his time there, he helped the team win the EFL Championship play-offs.

The following July, Targett moved to Aston Villa for £11.5 million.

During his two-and-a-half-year spell with Villa, Targett helped the club achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

On the 2022 winter transfer window deadline day, Targett joined Newcastle United on loan. The club later bought him permanently that summer for £15 million.

During his four-year spell with the Magpies, Targett made 47 appearances in all competitions, providing 2 assists, helped the Premier League club win the Carabao Cup for the first time in 70 years, and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League twice.
