After leaving Manchester City, where he played for many years, 32-year-old England centre-back John Stones is about to embark on a new chapter in his professional career.

It is understood that Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan are very close to signing Stones on a free transfer. Last season at Manchester City, Stones was plagued by injuries and only made 18 appearances, but he rediscovered his top-class center-back abilities at the subsequent World Cup.

As a key member of England manager Thomas Tuchel's defense, Stones frequently started in crucial knockout and semi-final matches, helping England reach the semi-finals with his solid performances. It was this impressive national team record that convinced Inter Milan, who had previously expressed interest in him, to commit and take the lead in the race for his services.
