Mas Hermansen believes the team showed significant improvement during the preseason preparation phase.

West Ham United goalkeeper Mas Hermansen said the team is currently progressing with preseason preparations as planned and believes they have found the right direction and are ready for the new season ahead of their Carabao Cup first-round match against Portsmouth on August 8.  

West Ham United's pre-season preparations are progressing steadily. After a 1-1 draw with Southend United and a 5-0 victory over Stevenage, the team faced Scottish Premiership side Rangers away on Sunday, ending in a 0-0 draw. With a clean sheet, West Ham United concluded their third pre-season friendly.  

After more than three weeks of preseason training and the return of national team players participating in the 2026 World Cup, Mas Hermannsen believes West Ham United are now in a good pre-season preparation phase. The team will next face Bundesliga side Magdeburg away this weekend for their final pre-season friendly.  

Mas Hermansen said: "I think the team performed well against Rangers, which I'm happy with. They are a very strong team, and they tried to limit our progress from the back by pressing high. However, we adapted well to that pace of the game, and the team showed a positive side in terms of both running ability and overall movement."  

“During this preseason preparation period, we completed several very valuable games, and the whole process was very enjoyable. Being able to be tested in an environment like the Rangers’ home stadium and face such a passionate atmosphere was a rare experience. I believe that these experiences will help the team achieve better development in the future.”  

"Overall, I think the team has made significant progress during the preseason and is now in a good state. Everyone has put in a lot of effort in training, and we can feel the team gradually growing. I believe that as long as we continue with this attitude, we will be on the right track."  

Speaking about the team's current overall condition, Mas Hermansen said that although last season's relegation was disappointing, the team has readjusted its mentality and is focusing on future development. He said, "Last season was indeed very difficult, and relegation is not an easy thing for any team or player to accept. Therefore, it is very important to take full advantage of the off-season to rest, and at the same time, to seriously reflect on the past and think about where individuals and the team need to improve."  

“Maintaining team stability is very important, and I think it’s significant for the club for Nuno to continue as head coach. At the same time, Bowen’s decision to stay is also very encouraging. He is not only our captain but also a key figure in the dressing room. His staying makes the whole team feel at ease and gives the team more confidence.”  

“Throughout the preseason, the team has maintained a very positive atmosphere, and I am satisfied with the unity and cohesion among everyone. Every day when I come to the training ground, I can feel the dedication and enthusiasm of my teammates. I believe we have gradually shaken off the effects of last season, and now the whole team is eagerly hoping that the new season can start as soon as possible.”  

Mas Hermanson previously played for Leicester City in the 2023/24 season, making 44 appearances and keeping 13 clean sheets, helping the team win the Championship title. He believes he can bring that experience to West Ham United and provide further support to his teammates.  

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Mas Hermanson said: "The Championship is a challenging competition, and the long schedule means we have to be at our best in every game. The whole team is excited for the new season, and we need to stay focused and competitive throughout the 46 league matches. Hopefully, we can achieve the desired results and become a Premier League team again."  

"The Championship matches will be very intense, with a lot of physical contact. But I hope the team can take more control of the game and play to its strengths by controlling the tempo. I think we've already shown that ability in the preseason, and we need to continue to improve and carry that performance into the official matches."  

“We know that playing against West Ham United will be a serious match for any opponent. But at the same time, we will be fully prepared and give our all in every game to try and win. Now, the whole team is really looking forward to the start of the new season.”
