Japanese defender Daiki Hashioka has joined Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan, with the contract including a buy-out clause.

Borussia Mönchengladbach announced on Thursday that Japanese international Daiki Hashioka has joined the club on loan from Slavia Prague. He will play for the club until the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option to buy included in his contract.

The official announcement also confirmed that Daiki Hashioka will wear the number 14 jersey for Borussia Mönchengladbach during his loan spell.

The 27-year-old Daiki Hashioka came through the Urawa Red Diamonds youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in the J.League Cup on August 30, 2017. He then played for St. Trenton and Luton Town before joining Slavia Prague in July 2025 for an undisclosed transfer fee.

To date, Daiki Hashioka has made 14 appearances for Slavia Prague, winning the Czech First League title in the 2025/26 season. He was also loaned to Gent for half a season, during which he made 17 appearances.

Daiki Hashioka primarily plays as a right-back, but can also play in multiple positions such as center-back and left midfielder. With Yoshim Knopplia sidelined for an extended period due to a medial collateral ligament injury in his knee, his arrival is a significant boost for Borussia Mönchengladbach.

After the signing was completed, Borussia Mönchengladbach's sporting director, Ruben Schroder, spoke highly of Daiki Hashioka: "Daiki Hashioka is outstanding in speed and aerial ability, and he is also proactive in defense. He can not only play as a right-back, but also as a right center-back. He has a wealth of experience, and we believe he will soon prove himself to be a valuable asset to the team."

Daiki Hashioka said, "I was overjoyed when I learned from my agent that Borussia Mönchengladbach was interested in me. I quickly decided that I wanted to join Mönchengladbach and I am very much looking forward to taking on new challenges in the Bundesliga."
