Palmer looks forward to working alongside his friend Morgan Rogers.

Chelsea midfielder Palmer said in an interview that he was very happy to see Morgan Rodgers join Chelsea and looked forward to playing alongside his friend on the pitch.

The 23-year-old Morgan Rodgers previously played for Aston Villa, contributing 10 goals and 7 assists for Unai Emery's team in the 2025/26 Premier League season, and also helping Aston Villa win the Europa League title with 3 goals that season.

In addition, in the earlier 2026 World Cup, Morgan Rogers and his teammates overcame numerous difficulties and ultimately won the bronze medal.

Palmer, 24, said, "Everyone knows how good Morgan Rodgers is, and he's one of my best friends, so I'm really happy that he's here. We've always been in touch, and when I heard that Chelsea wanted to sign him, I kept messaging him, even more than usual, just to persuade him to join."

"Towards the end, he probably found me super annoying. But I'm so glad he finally came, and now I can't wait to fight alongside him."

Palmer shared, "I think we are two different types of players, but both can bring a lot to the team. He is stronger physically than me, both with and without the ball, and he prefers to dribble forward. I believe we can develop a good understanding, after all, we played many games together when we were young."

Speaking about new head coach Xabi Alonso, Palmer said, "We had been in contact before he came to the team. He even sent me a message when I was left out of the World Cup squad, and receiving his message warmed my heart."

“So far, everything has been fantastic. Both he and the entire coaching staff have been outstanding, and we are all looking forward to continuing to train and play under his guidance. He wants me to play as a number 10, finding space to run between the two midfielders. I feel great right now, and I have a full seven weeks to prepare for the new season. Now, I am ready.”

In addition, Chelsea will face Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly match.

Palmer said, "This is my first time in Australia, so I didn't know what it would be like. But after seeing the stadium a few days ago, I found it to be really great. Although it's just a preseason game, it always feels special to play against Tottenham. The most important thing is to use preseason games to prepare the team for the new season, that's the real meaning of preseason preparation."

"It's been a great summer. I had about seven weeks off, which is more than I've ever had before. I spent time with my family, and now I feel completely refreshed and ready for the new season."
