Levante triggered Australia international goalkeeper Mathew Ryan's contract extension clause..

Levante announced on their official website on Tuesday that they have triggered the contract extension clause of their Australia international goalkeeper Mathew Ryan.

According to Levante's official statement, Ryan's contract has been automatically extended for one year, with the new contract expiring in the summer of 2027.

About Mathew Ryan

The 34-year-old Mathew Ryan was born on April 8, 1992, in Plumton. He is 1.84 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper. He has Scottish ancestry, thus held dual Australian and British citizenship.

As a child, Ryan played for the youth academies of Australian non-league clubs Marconi Stallions and Blacktown City. In the summer of 2009, he joined the Central Coast Mariners' youth academy, and after being promoted to the first-team in January of the following year, he was immediately loaned back to Blacktown City.

Upon returning to the club that summer, Ryan completed his Central Coast Mariners first-team debut in August 2010.

During his three-year spell with Central Coast Mariners, Ryan won one A-League Premier title and one A-League Championship.

In July 2013, Ryan joined Club Brugge for €45,000.

During his two-year spell with Club Brugge, Ryan won one Belgian Cup.

In the summer of 2015, Ryan joined Valencia for €7 million. However, he received almost no playing time with Los che. During this spell, he also played on loan for Genk, where he helped them reach the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals.

In the summer of 2017, Ryan joined Brighton & Hove Albion for £8 million.

During his three-and-a-half-year spell with the Seagulls, Ryan received numerous praises for his outstanding performances.

In January 2021, Ryan was loaned-out to Arsenal as an emergency addition to their squad.

In July of the same year, Ryan joined Real Sociedad for €1 million. However, due to the consistently excellent performance of first-choice goalkeeper Alex Remiro, Ryan only received sporadic playing time.

The following August, Ryan joined Copenhagen for €400,000. Despite limited playing time, he still won the Swiss Super League title with the team.

In January 2023, Ryan joined AZ Alkmaar for €200,000.

During his two-year spell with AZ, Ryan helped the team reach the UEFA Conference League semi-finals once and the KNVB Cup quarter-finals once.

The following summer, Ryan joined Roma on a free transfer. However, he only made one appearance for I Giallorossi in a Coppa Italia match, being rooted on the bench for most of the time.

In August 2025, Ryan joined Levante on a free transfer.

Last season, Ryan made 36 appearances for the La Liga club in all competitions, conceding 56 goals and keeping 9 clean sheets.
