Frosinone announced on their official website on Thursday that they have signed former Werder Bremen Austria international duo, attacking midfielder Romano Schmid and defensive midfielder Florian Grillitsch.
According to the newly promoted Serie A side's official statement, Schmid has signed on a long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2030; while Grillitsch has signed on a short-term one-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027, with an option to extend for a further year.
About Romano Schmid
The 26-year-old Romano Schmid was born on January 27, 2000, in Graz, Austria. He is 1.68 meters tall and primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play as a left midfielder.
Schmid joined Sturm Graz's youth academy at the age of nine, began playing for their reserve team in 2016, and completed his first-team debut by coming on as a substitute the following May.
In August 2017, Schmid moved to Red Bull Salzburg for €450,000, but was immediately arranged to play for their satellite team, Liefering, before finally started playing for the first-team the following year.
In January 2019, Schmid joined Werder Bremen for €1 million, but was immediately loaned-out to Wolfsberger.
Upon returning to the club the following summer after his loan spell, Schmid officially became a regular starter for Werder Bremen's first-team.
During his six-year spell with Werder, Schmid made 192 appearances for the Bundesliga club, scoring 18 goals and providing 35 assists.
About Florian Grillitsch
The 31-year-old Florian Grillitsch was born on August 7, 1995, in Neunkirchen, Austria. He is 1.87 meters tall and primarily plays as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a center-back.
Grillitsch joined St. Pölten's youth academy at age 13 and joined Werder Bremen's youth academy in 2013. He started playing for their reserves the following year before completing his first-team debut in a DFB-Pokal match in August 2015.
In the summer of 2017, Grillitsch joined Hoffenheim on a free transfer.
During his five-year spell at Hoffenheim, Grillitsch's outstanding performances made him one of the best Austrian players in the Bundesliga.
On the 2022 summer transfer window deadline day, Grillitsch joined Ajax on a free transfer, but rarely received playing time.
After being terminating his contract and left the club the following summer, Grillitsch returned to Hoffenheim on a free transfer. During this spell, he also played for Real Valladolid on-loan.
In August 2025, Grillitsch joined Sporting Clube de Braga on a free transfer.
Last season, Grillitsch made 36 appearances for the Portuguese Primeira Liga powerhouse in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists, helping the team reach the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, the Taça da Liga final, and the Taça do Portugal quarter-finals.
