Embracing external expectations and challenges, Maresca: We will strive to win the championship.

With the 2026/27 Premier League season about to kick off, Manchester City, who are actively training, will embark on a new journey and face new challenges. Facing expectations from the outside world, Maresca stated that he and the players will embrace the challenge and do their utmost to win the championship.

During his time at Manchester City, Maresca served as an assistant coach under Guardiola, and later managed Leicester City and Chelsea as head coach, until he was appointed as the new head coach of Manchester City in June of this year.

Manchester City manager Maresca said, "I am very excited, and I am well aware of the expectations that come with joining a club like Manchester City. The expectation is to win games, win titles, and fight for titles, and we will strive to achieve that."

“I’m so happy to be back in Manchester. It’s a very special moment, it feels like coming home, so it’s a wonderful feeling. The staff at the club, they’re almost all the same people. The squad may have changed by about 80%, but overall I feel exactly the same. The people here are great, it’s really wonderful to be back.”

Furthermore, when asked what constitutes an achievement, Maresca said, "That's a good question, and of course, it's about striving to win championships."

"But as I said before, this is a goal that the club must strive for, so hopefully by the end of the season we can enjoy that moment."

On the other hand, Manchester City will face Arsenal in the upcoming Community Shield, followed by a home game against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in the first round of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
