Adrian Bernabé confirmed on Tuesday that he has not yet discussed a contract extension with Parma.
Bernabé, 25, was born in Barcelona, Spain, and received his early football career through youth academies at Espanyol, Barcelona, and Manchester City. He made his first-team debut for Manchester City on September 25, 2018, and subsequently won one Premier League title and three League Cups as a substitute.
In July 2021, Bernabé joined Parma on a free transfer. As a versatile midfielder, he has made 146 appearances for Parma to date, contributing 19 goals and 12 assists, and played a crucial role in the club's return to Serie A in 2023/24.
However, Bernabé has recently been sidelined due to a muscle problem. With his contract entering its final year, his future at the club has become a frequent topic of discussion. In response, Bernabé stated, "We haven't discussed that topic yet. I feel great at Parma. My current focus is on getting myself fit and then contributing to the team."
"At this stage, contract renewal is not my priority. The team has undergone many changes, including the change of coach. What we need to do now is win games, that's the most important thing."
When asked if he intended to stay with the team, Bernabé replied, "I'm very happy in Parma. From day one, I felt the unique charm of this city. I'm having a wonderful time here."
Regarding his physical condition, Bernabé said, "I feel great now and my physical condition is good. If all goes well, I will train with the team next Monday. I am happy because my recovery has made significant progress."
Bernabéu also spoke highly of his former coach Carlos Cuesta: "After hearing the news, I had a long talk with him. He was very important to me and gave me a lot of help. I believe he will succeed in the future; he is a well-rounded and well-prepared coach."
"Despite his lack of experience at the time, he still managed to unite the team. Under his leadership, everyone gave their all. He had the ability to maintain unity in the locker room."
We feel a deep sense of responsibility because Cuesta gave so much for us. We feel sorry for him. He was a remarkable person, and we wish him all the best for the future. Now, we are about to embark on a new journey. We embrace it with enthusiasm and will fully cooperate with Alberto Gilardino and his coaching team.
