According to a report by ESPN's Shams Charania on Thursday, the Detroit Pistons have reached a contract extension agreement with Jalen Duren. Duren will receive a five-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $200 million, without any options or weight management clauses.
With Durant finally accepting the Pistons' offer, the nearly four-month-long contract extension saga has finally come to an end. Since becoming a restricted free agent in June, he had missed several team events due to the contract dispute, including the Pistons' media day earlier this week.
All indications suggest that Duren's new contract will take effect starting in the 2027/28 season. His salary for the 2026/27 season will be approximately $40 million.
Durant, 22, is a 2.08-meter tall, 113-kilogram center who entered the NBA in June 2022 as the 13th overall pick in the first round. He has played for the Pistons for four years and was selected to the All-Star team and the All-NBA Third Team for the first time last season thanks to his outstanding performance.
To date, Durant has played 276 regular season games for the Pistons, averaging 13.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 27.0 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 65.2%. He also played 20 playoff games, averaging 10.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game, with his field goal percentage dropping to 55.0%.
For the Pistons, Durant, along with Cade Cunningham and Osar Thompson, are all considered core members of the team's future. This is why they previously firmly rejected all potential sign-and-trade offers.
