Romero becoming Argentina's new captain: This is a day I will always remember.

With legendary star Lionel Messi set to retire from the national team, 28-year-old Sergio Romero has officially become the new captain of the "Pampas Eagles." In an interview, Romero stated that this is a day he will never forget and that he is extremely grateful for the opportunity to shoulder this responsibility.

Argentina secured a 4-0 victory over Bolivia in a friendly match, thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez, Nico Paz, Romero, and Manuel López.

When asked about his feelings on becoming captain of the Argentine national team, Atletico Madrid defender Romero said, "This is a day I will always remember. I never thought that I would start my professional career in Belgrano and come back here 10 years later, having achieved everything with the national team."

“We have excellent players and an outstanding coaching team. Moving forward, we will continue to prepare and strive to keep the national team at the top of the world.”

Romero continued, "Scaloni actually told me a long time ago that I would become the third captain. Messi and Otamendi chose me, and now it's my turn to take on this responsibility, so I am very grateful for it."

“We will miss Messi very much. He is our standard-bearer, and there will never be another player like him in the world.”

In addition, Argentine midfielder McAllister, who plays for Liverpool, said, "The team has changed a lot. When we came to the dressing room before, I was one of the youngest players in the team, but now I am one of the senior players in the team."

“We entered the finals with high hopes, but now we’ve entered a different phase and we still have a lot of work to do.”

Speaking about Messi's impending retirement, McAllister said, "We will always be grateful to Messi. He is the greatest player and has always given everything for us."
