Head coach Jesus said the door to the national team is still open to Ronaldo.

After Portugal secured their place in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals, head coach Jorge Jesus publicly responded to the early departure of captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Jesus made it clear that the national team has not closed the door to the legendary superstar, and Ronaldo has the right to decide for himself when to return to the national team or how to end his national team career.

Previously, 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo spent the game against Norway on the bench and, after learning that he would not be able to start against Denmark, chose to leave the training camp without permission. He later posted on social media that he would explain the truth about leaving the team at an appropriate time.

After Portugal's 2-1 victory over Norway on Sunday, Jesus addressed the matter directly in a post-match interview: "He can return to the national team if he wants to. We can discuss this before the next call-up, but ultimately it will be Ronaldo's decision."

"Cristiano should end his national team career in the way he wants; he is the one who decides how he will leave. I told him when I first took charge that I needed him by my side, whether he played or not, and I still hold the same view now."

Cristiano Ronaldo's national team teammates also voiced their support for their captain. João Cancelo, who contributed significantly to the team's success, said in an interview: "Cristiano is our captain and the greatest player in Portuguese history. I believe that things will ultimately end in the best possible way."

Nuno Mendes also stated: "Any player who comes to the national team will be welcomed, and if Ronaldo chooses to return, we will welcome him with open arms."

Portugal will play their next two group stage matches in mid-November, and whether Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the squad will be a major focus of attention.
