Modric harshly criticized the team's crushing defeat, saying he felt ashamed for the first time.

After Croatia suffered a humiliating 0-7 defeat at home to England in Group A of the UEFA Nations League, captain Luka Modric expressed extreme shock and disappointment in a post-match interview.

Modric, making his 205th appearance for the national team, frankly stated that this was the first time in his 20 years with the national team that he felt ashamed, and characterized the match as an absolute disaster.

Facing the media, Modric harshly criticized the team's performance. He frankly stated that their passive situation on the field was incomprehensible: "Football should never be played like this; we looked like we were missing four or five players."

"It's hard to explain a game that was devoid of any physicality, fouls, aggression, and cohesion. I've played for the national team for 20 years, but this is the first time I've felt ashamed after a match."

Despite acknowledging that their opponents have shown superior strength, Modric believes that the way his team lost without fighting spirit is unacceptable: "You can lose, and you can face a truly stronger opponent, and the current England team is the stronger one."

"But in any case, losing the game in this way and squandering the reputation we have worked so hard to build over the years is absolutely unacceptable. It is a disastrous night for Croatia."

Croatia currently sits third in their group and faces a tough match to secure their place in the top flight of the UEFA Nations League. Speaking about their upcoming preparations, Modric urged his teammates to quickly regain their composure: "We need to pull ourselves together immediately and stay united because another tough game is coming up."

"We must show our true selves and prove that we still have a spirit of resistance, dignity, desire, fighting spirit and cohesion in our hearts. These precious qualities must not be destroyed overnight."
