The Liverpool ECHO reported on Tuesday, citing Cheshire Police, that Everton and England's first-choice international goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, has been charged with reckless driving following an incident that nearly caused a multi-vehicle collision.
According to the report, the alarming incident occurred on April 14, 2026, five days before his club, Everton, lost 2–1 to their Merseyside rivals, Liverpool. Police were dispatched after receiving reports of a blue Lamborghini speeding and swerving erratically near Knutsford, Cheshire, in a manner constituting reckless driving.
Officers pursued Pickford with lights and sirens activated, signaling him to stop for investigation, but the player failed to comply. In addition to ignoring "Give Way" signs at a junction, he accelerated to 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, forcing two other vehicles to brake sharply to avoid a collision.
After eventually pulling over voluntarily and being informed of the traffic violation, Pickford was told by police that he had driven recklessly and without regard for the safety of other road users.
Following an investigation, Cheshire Police formally charged Pickford with reckless driving on September 23; the player has since pleaded guilty.
Pickford is due to appear in court next week, with the initial hearing scheduled for December 7 at Chester Magistrates' Court.
England has scored a remarkable 10 goals across their last two UEFA Nations League matches, with Pickford keeping clean sheets in the process.
The 32-year-old Pickford has made 93 appearances for England across all competitions, conceding 62 goals and keeping 48 clean sheets, where he has reached the European Championship final twice, as well as the semi-finals of the World Cup and the UEFA Nations League once each.
