Official: Leeds United extend contract of 25-year-old captain Ethan Ampadu until 2030

Leeds United announced on Thursday that they have extended the contract of captain Ethan Ampadu by three years, until June 30, 2030, on top of the original contract which expired in 2027.

Regarding the contract extension, Leeds United chairman Parag Marat commented: "Ethan played a pivotal role throughout the season. He was a true captain both on and off the pitch. Everything he did demonstrated true leadership."

“He feels like one of us on the field, and he also has a close relationship with everyone off the field. That’s why we believe his contract extension is a crucial starting point for this summer transfer window.”

The 25-year-old Ampadu came through the Exeter City youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in the English League Cup on August 10, 2016. He transferred to Chelsea in 2017, but was subsequently loaned out to RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia, and Spezia.

In July 2023, Ampadu joined Leeds United from Chelsea for £7 million. He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder and center-back at Leeds United, making 126 appearances to date, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists.

Ampadu is also an indispensable member of the Welsh national team. To date, he has made 62 appearances for the Red Dragons and represented the team in the 2021 European Championship and the 2022 World Cup.
