Official: Stuttgart extends contract with 27-year-old center-back Zagadou until June 2027.

Stuttgart released a statement on Thursday confirming the contract extension with French center-back Dan-Axel Zagadou. The new contract extends the original summer expiry date by one year, until June 30, 2027.

The 27-year-old Zagadou came through the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy and made his professional debut for Borussia Dortmund on August 19, 2017, in the first round of the Bundesliga against Wolfsburg. During his time with Dortmund, he made 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist, and won the German Cup and the German Super Cup with the team.

In September 2022, Zagadou joined Stuttgart on a free transfer. He has made only 50 appearances for Stuttgart so far, missing a total of 656 days due to injuries of various kinds.

All signs indicate that Stuttgart is attempting to demonstrate its absolute trust in Zagadou through a contract extension. As Stuttgart's sporting director, Fabian Volgmuth explained after the extension: "With his skills and personal qualities, Zagadou has become an indispensable member of our squad. He overcame setbacks caused by injuries, returned to the field with tremendous perseverance, and played a vital role in the defense. We look forward to building a future together with him."

Zagadou said, "I am very grateful for the trust the Stuttgart management has placed in me. Next season, I will do my best to deliver the best performance for the coaching staff, the club, and the fans. Let's work together to create something great!"
