July 5th - According to ESPN , the Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies have reached a trade agreement. Forward Santy Aldama was sent to the Mavericks in exchange for AJ Johnson, a 2030 first-round pick, and two future second-round picks.
The first-round pick reportedly comes from the Golden State Warriors and is a top- 20 protected pick. The Mavericks will also acquire the rights to Tarik Biberovic. This second -round pick, selected by the Grizzlies in 2023 , currently plays in the European and Turkish leagues and has yet to play in the NBA .
The 25- year-old Aldama has played for the Grizzlies since entering the league. A 2021 first-round pick, he averaged 14 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists last season, shooting 35% from three-point range ( 4.7 attempts per game). The 6'3 " forward signed a two-year extension with the team last summer, including a $ 17 million team option for the 2027-28 season .
Meanwhile, AJ Johnson played 23 games for the Mavericks last season , averaging 3.9 points and 1.1 assists per game. The 21 -year-old guard was selected 23rd overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2024 NBA Draft .
