Turkish giants Fenerbahce announced on Tuesday that Mason Greenwood has joined the club from Marseille. He has signed a four-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
The club also confirmed that Greenwood's €39 million transfer fee will be paid in three installments. According to the previously reached agreement, Manchester United and Getafe will each receive €12.48 million and €3.12 million respectively in secondary transfer fees.
Turkish transfer journalist Yagiz Sabonkalu further pointed out that Greenwood's after-tax annual salary at Fenerbahce is as high as 10 million euros. According to the French newspaper L'Équipe, his annual salary at Marseille is approximately 6 million euros.
The 24-year-old Greenwood came through Manchester United's youth academy and made his professional debut on March 7, 2019, in a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. He primarily plays as a right winger and center forward for Manchester United, contributing 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 appearances across all competitions.
In January 2022, Greenwood was suspended indefinitely by Manchester United on charges including attempted rape and assault. After being away from professional football for about a year and a half, he made a comeback on loan at Getafe in September 2023.
In July 2024, Greenwood moved to Marseille for a transfer fee of €26 million. To date, he has made 81 appearances for Marseille, scoring 48 goals and providing 17 assists.
After completing the transfer, Greenwood stated through official channels: "Without a doubt, I am very excited. After a long and winding process, I am delighted to have finally finalized this deal. I want to thank everyone, the club, and the chairman for their hard work. Everyone has put in a lot of effort for today, but I am incredibly excited."
“When the club expressed interest in me, I didn’t hesitate at all. I can’t wait to join the team, make my debut at the Sáragóglou Stadium, and meet all the new fans. I hope to show my abilities at Fenerbahce.”
"Obviously, our goal is to become the best team, win the league title, and qualify for the Champions League, which is crucial for the club and the fans. We hope to achieve these goals."
“Fenerbahce’s fans are incredibly passionate and there’s a huge following. They’re constantly sending messages to me, my family, and friends, and I can really feel their presence. Fenerbahce is the biggest club in Turkey. I can’t wait to start this new chapter.”
