Aston Villa sign Swiss World Cup star John Manzambi

Aston Villa Football Club has officially announced the signing of 20-year-old Swiss international Johan Manzanby from Bundesliga side Freiburg.

This young, creative midfielder just represented Switzerland at the 2026 World Cup, where he contributed 3 goals and 2 assists.

As one of Europe's most promising young stars, Manzanbi had an outstanding season with Freiburg. He not only helped the team reach the Europa League final but also scored a crucial goal in the semi-final, ultimately winning the Europa League Young Player of the Season award.

During his time at Freiburg, Manzanbi showcased his versatility, capable of playing as an attacking linchpin for the national team as well as a defensive midfielder for his club.

After completing the transfer formalities, Manzanby expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League team in an interview with the club's official media.

In an interview with Villa fans, Manzanby said: "I am very excited to be here. Aston Villa is a big club in England and they are competing in the Champions League. We know that we can achieve great things when we are together. I am looking forward to playing at Villa Park."

Speaking about head coach Unai Emery, Manzambi added: "In past matches, I could feel on the pitch that he is a very good coach."

“I’m looking forward to receiving guidance from Emery and training with my new teammates. I believe that with the help of the coaching staff and the team, I can maintain the good form I had at the World Cup and Freiburg.”
