Scottish captain Andy Robertson, who joined Tottenham Hotspur in June, has now officially reported to the "Lilywhites". In an interview, Robertson said that this is a time for him to take on new challenges in his career and that he looks forward to helping the team become better with his new teammates.
The 32-year-old Robertson previously played for Liverpool for nine years, during which time he won two Premier League titles, one Champions League title, two League Cup titles, one FA Cup title, and one UEFA Super Cup title, among other major trophies.
Robertson said, "I'm really happy to be here. The process of joining was a bit special. I went to the World Cup right after the official announcement, so I only just got to the team now. My first day here felt great. I met a lot of new friends, and of course I've been trying to remember everyone's names. I'm also getting familiar with the training facility and adapting to everything here."
“Now is the perfect time of my career to take on new challenges, so when the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur came up, I made the decision without hesitation. Now that I’m here, I hope to continue to advance my career and achieve more, and hopefully I can do it all while wearing the Tottenham Hotspur shirt.”
In the 2025/26 Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur struggled to maintain consistent performance and even faced relegation at one point. However, after a hard-fought battle in the crucial stages of the season, they ultimately finished 17th and successfully remained in the Premier League.
Besides Robertson, Tottenham Hotspur have also signed Tonali, Matus Fernandes, Senesi and Van Heik. Manager De Zerbi's current task is to help the team build chemistry and improve their form.
Robertson continued, "Looking at the league results of the past few seasons, we may not have met the standards that fans expected. But last season, the team persevered to the end with a tenacious fighting spirit and ultimately succeeded in avoiding relegation."
"However, from the first day I arrived here, I felt that the whole team was determined not to let this happen again. Our responsibility is to make the team better and not let that happen again."
Speaking of head coach De Zerbi, Robertson said, "Head coach De Zerbi is very attractive to me. I have spoken with him, and he and his coaching team have impressed me a lot. They are very clear about what kind of team they want to build."
"He enjoys a very high reputation in world football and is also an outstanding coach. I hope to achieve more success under his leadership."
In addition, Robertson said, "Now I am a more experienced player and have accumulated a lot of match experience. I hope to use this experience to help the younger players and other teammates. I believe everyone wants Tottenham Hotspur to have a successful season, and I certainly do too. I hope I can play an important role in it and perform to my full potential."
“From day one I could feel that everyone was determined to give their best, and hopefully that will create some special moments for us this season.”
