The University of Michigan has added NBA assistant coach Dylan Murphy to its coaching staff.

August 1st - University of Michigan men's basketball head coach Mike Boynton Jr. continues to bolster his coaching staff, hiring Dylan Murphy as an assistant coach. Murphy will reportedly join the Wolverines' coaching staff to assist the team in preparing for the 2026-27 season.

Murphy has extensive experience coaching in the NBA and G League, as well as in data analysis. For the past five years, he has worked with the Orlando Magic, serving as a basketball operations analyst from 2018 to 2020 , providing data support to the team's coaching staff; he then transitioned to a full-fledged assistant coach from 2020 to 2023 , accumulating three years of NBA team coaching experience.

Before joining the Magic, Murphy served as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers' G League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, from 2013 to 2016. In the 2013-14 season, he helped the team achieve a league-best record of 34 wins and 16 losses, and went undefeated in the playoffs to win the G League championship.

In addition, Murphy served as a G League scout for the Atlanta Hawks and as a graduate assistant coach at Ball State University during the 2017-18 season.
