Jack Stephens: We believe that through the collective effort of the whole team, we can achieve our goals.

Southampton captain Jack Stephens stated that the team needs to find their rhythm quickly at the start of the new Championship season, as a good start will significantly impact their promotion goals for the entire season. Two weeks later, Southampton will begin their new journey with an away match against Watford in the Championship opener.  

Southampton are hoping to extend their 21-game unbeaten run in the league since January into the new season. During this impressive run, the team has demonstrated strong competitiveness, climbing from 15th in the standings in just four months to reach the promotion play-off final.  

However, affected by the four-point deduction penalty for the new season, Jack Stephens believes the team must get into form faster than ever before. Southampton need a strong start to close the points gap as much as possible and take the initiative in their promotion goals for the rest of the season.  

Jack Stephens said: "I'm really looking forward to the start of the new season. The league is always the most important and exciting phase compared to other competitions, and every team wants to get off to a good start. For us, this year's start is even more crucial."  

“We’ve discussed this issue within the team many times, and everyone understands the importance of maintaining good form. We hope to continue the competitiveness we showed at the end of last season. The situation may change when playing away games this season, as other teams may see beating us as their goal, and we may become the challenge they see.”  

Speaking about the important role of fans, Jack Stephens said : " It is crucial for the whole club to stay united. Last season, no matter what stage the team was in, the fans gave us tremendous support. Especially when we had a difficult start, they stood firmly behind the team and gave us the motivation to move forward at many important moments."  

“We need to show the fans with our actions that the team is ready to meet the challenges of the new season and has demonstrated sufficient determination. Their support is invaluable. I am proud to be a part of this club, and I believe the fans will continue to provide us with tremendous support in the new season, just as they have in the past.”  

Regarding the impact of the points deductions for the new season, Jack Stephens added , " The points deductions undoubtedly increase the pressure on the team, but we've already overcome many difficulties and know what we need to focus on. If we can achieve the desired results at the beginning of the season, we have the opportunity to gradually build confidence and momentum, just like last season. We believe that with the team's efforts, we can achieve the goals we were meant to achieve."
