Chelsea, nicknamed the "Blues," played a preseason friendly at Accor Stadium in Australia but ultimately lost 1-2 to Tottenham Hotspur. Xabi Alonso stated that the defeat is a necessary part of the team's growth process, but believes the team achieved some important goals during this preseason training period.
In the 17th minute, Manol Solomon passed the ball back to Tonali, who unleashed a long-range shot to give Tottenham a 1-0 lead. In the 21st minute, Gitens chipped the ball into the box from the left, and Estewan Willian headed it in to level the score at 1-1 for Chelsea.
In the 49th minute of the second half, Kevin Danso pulled down João Pedro while vying for the ball, and was shown a red card by the referee, leaving Tottenham Hotspur with only 10 players to continue.
In stoppage time of the second half, Jamie Donley received the ball and fired a low shot that hit the post. Richarlison then followed up and scored, giving Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 lead again.
Ultimately, Chelsea lost 1-2 to Tottenham Hotspur in this friendly match.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said, "It was undoubtedly a very competitive game, and of course we wanted to win, and losing is definitely not the result we wanted. Although it was a preseason friendly, we also missed a few good chances."
"The first half was very intense, with both teams evenly matched. In the second half, we came very close to scoring the winning goal. It was a high-quality preseason match with a large audience and a fantastic atmosphere. Unfortunately, we conceded a goal in the final moments and lost the game."
Xabi Alonso pointed out, "In any game, you feel there are areas where you can do better. This is part of the whole growth process. We need to analyze what aspects need improvement, what we did well, and also understand where the team is currently."
“It’s normal to go through this phase, but the result isn’t the most important thing right now. The most important thing is the team’s overall performance and getting many players to play around 75 minutes as planned, which we have achieved.”
Speaking about his experience playing in Australia, Xabi Alonso said, "It was a fantastic experience. More than 80,000 fans came to the stadium, and the atmosphere was incredibly vibrant. We received a very warm welcome and tremendous support from the fans this week."
"We hope to be able to come back here again in the next few years and meet everyone again. We are very grateful for the support of all the fans."
