The Rockets continue to adjust their backcourt roster after waiving JD Davidson.

August 6 - The Houston Rockets officially announced that they have waived guard JD Davidson.

Davidson was the 53rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft . He played his first three seasons on a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics. However, he only played 36 regular season games for the Celtics, averaging 5.5 minutes per game.

In the 2025-26 season, Davidson signed a two-way contract with the Rockets, playing 28 games for the team, averaging 7.8 minutes, 2.5 points, 1.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds, with a field goal percentage of 37.5% and a three-point percentage of 25% .

Compared to his NBA career, Davidson's performance in the G League was even more impressive. During his time with the Maine Celtics in the 2024-25 season, he averaged 25.6 points, 7.7 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game, ultimately winning the G League MVP award .

After waiving Davidson, the Rockets' total salary was just below the luxury tax threshold by about $ 14,000 , leaving room for future moves. Currently, the Rockets have 14 players on standard contracts, 12 of whom have fully guaranteed contracts, allowing the team to adjust its final roster based on training camp and preseason performances.
