Lorient officially announced on Saturday that they have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to loan Noah Mbamba. Mbamba will play for Lorient until the end of the 2026/27 season, and the contract does not include a buy-out clause.
The official announcement also confirmed that Mbamba will wear the number 72 jersey at Lorient. Further reports indicate that Lorient paid Bayer Leverkusen a loan fee of €500,000 for the move.
The 21-year-old Mbamba started his career at Belgian powerhouse Club Brugge before transferring to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2023 for €100,000. He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder for Leverkusen, making 7 appearances and providing 2 assists so far, winning one Bundesliga title and one German Cup with the team.
To gain more playing time, Mbamba played on loan for Fortuna Düsseldorf and Denderleu. During this period, he made 53 appearances in all competitions, contributing 2 goals and 2 assists.
Following the signing, Lorient's sporting director, Laurent Koscielny, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Noah to Lorient Football Club. As a player with great potential, his arrival will strengthen our midfield. His characteristics and abilities are a perfect fit for the tactical system we hope to build this season. He is a young player with a good professional attitude, which is crucial for us. We can't wait to see Noah's performance on the pitch."
Mbamba himself said: "I am very happy to join Lorient Football Club. Lorient is an ideal club for me and will help me grow. As a young player, playing in Ligue 1 is very meaningful for me. I can't wait to meet my teammates and coaching staff and experience the atmosphere of the Yves Allanmatt Stadium."
