Lyon's Portuguese left winger Alfonso Moreira has officially joined Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year contract.

Bayer Leverkusen announced on Thursday the signing of Portuguese left winger Alfonso Moreira from Lyon. The two sides reached a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.

Moreira's contract with Lyon was originally set to expire in 2029. His transfer fee was €29.5 million plus €4.1 million in add-ons, with an additional 10% commission on any subsequent transfer.

After completing the transfer, Moreira said: "I am very proud and happy to wear the Leverkusen jersey. From the first conversation, I felt that this club was a perfect fit for my career plans."

“Through respectful communication, the club management outlined a clear development path for me. They carefully understood my current situation and future goals, and clearly expressed their confidence in my potential. This recognition was very important to me and was a key factor in my decision to join Bayer Leverkusen.”

The 21-year-old Moreira came through the youth academy of Sporting CP and made his professional debut for the first team in the Portuguese league on August 13, 2023. Since joining Lyon in July 2025, he has made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 11 assists, helping the team to a 4th place finish in Ligue 1.

Regarding Moreira's arrival, Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes commented: "Alfonso Moreira is a fast, agile, and technically gifted attacker. He possesses both excellent finishing ability and good passing vision. His speed and aggressive playing style are a perfect fit for our team."

"With Alfonso's arrival, we will gain additional firepower and creativity in attack. We are very happy to have such an exciting and promising player wearing our Leverkusen jersey."
