Brunson undergoes surgery on his left wrist and is expected to resume training by late summer. July 8th - According to ESPN , New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson successfully underwent surgery on his left wrist on Tuesday. Brunson is expected to resume basketball training later this summer.

 

Sources revealed that Brunson underwent surgery after playing through injury to win the Knicks' championship run. During the 2026 NBA Finals, the left-handed guard endured a wrist injury to help his team defeat the San Antonio Spurs and win their first championship in 53 years.

In the Finals, Brunson averaged 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game across five games, including a crucial 45-point performance in Game 5, setting a new Knicks franchise record for most points in a Finals game. He was also named Finals MVP for his outstanding performance.

Throughout the playoffs, Brunson averaged 28.4 points per game, becoming the 13th player since the modern playoff format was introduced in 1984 to lead a championship team to an average of over 28 points per game in the playoffs .

 

In the 2026 playoffs, the Knicks achieved a 16-3 record, a winning percentage of 84.2 % , tying the 2024 Celtics for the second-highest playoff record since the adoption of the best-of-seven format in 2003. The team also achieved a 13- game playoff winning streak, a 9- game road winning streak, and a total playoff margin of victory of 283 points.
