Liverpool striker Chiesa said in an interview that he will focus on Liverpool for now and hopes to get more opportunities under new manager Andoni Iraola.
In an earlier friendly match, Liverpool defeated Sunderland 4-2 thanks to goals from Kieran Morrison, Szoboszlai, Chiesa and Lewis Koumas. This was also the first match that new manager Andoni Iraola led the "Reds" in.
Chiesa, now 28, said, "I'm very happy in Liverpool right now. I love the club, I love the fans and everything here."
“I’m doing my best to get a chance here. As for what will happen in the future, we’ll see. Right now, the only thing on my mind is Liverpool.”
In the 2025/26 Premier League season, Chiesa made 26 appearances for Liverpool, contributing two goals and one assist, and scored one goal in the Champions League.
Chiesa said, "Every year is a new beginning. Perhaps I have experienced too many so-called 'starts' in my career, but I don't care. Now I just want to try my best to prove myself to this new coach."
“Actually, last season I felt I was ready to take on a more important role. But whether I played or not ultimately depended on the manager’s decision. The manager has his own game plan and his own choices, and I have no objection to that. As for this year, it’s a completely new chapter. The team has a new manager, and all I need to do is focus on the present.”
Regarding his future with the Italian national team, Chiesa said, "Last season, I spoke with Gattuso a few times, but at that time my body wasn't ready. I needed more time, and he understood my situation. But just as I was gradually regaining my form, I suffered another injury."
"However, I have always looked forward to playing for the national team again. I won a championship with Italy, and it will always be an incredibly proud thing to play for my country."
