Ipswich City have officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Kjell Scheppen. The Dutch goalkeeper joined Belgian side United Saint-Giroud and signed a four-year contract that runs until 2030. Scheppen becomes Ipswich's sixth signing this summer.
The 26-year-old Kyle Scheppen has extensive European experience, having played for Brighton & Hove Albion in England and subsequently represented Ajax, Vitesse, and Sturm Graz in the top flight. The goalkeeper has gained valuable European experience by participating in the Champions League group stage for the past two seasons. He has also been selected for the Netherlands U21 national team and was called up to the senior Dutch national team early in his career.
After completing the signing, Kel Schipen said: "It is a great honor for me to be here and a proud moment. The Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and I hope to seize this opportunity to showcase my abilities and create many unforgettable experiences with the team."
“I had very positive and pleasant communication with the club, and I could feel the positive energy throughout the process. This makes me even more excited to become a member of Ipswich. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and also look forward to joining the fans as soon as possible to start this new journey.”
Ipswich Town manager Gary O'Neill said: "Kyle Schipen's arrival further strengthens our goalkeeping position, and we are very pleased to bring him to the team. He has accumulated a wealth of experience in top leagues in several European countries and in continental competitions, and now he is eager to show his abilities in the Premier League. We look forward to him joining the team as soon as possible and working with his teammates to prepare for the new season."
Kjell Schipen was born in Emmen, Netherlands, and began his professional career with local club Emmen FC. In the summer of 2019, his outstanding performances attracted the attention of Dutch giants Ajax, leading to his transfer. During his time in Amsterdam, Schipen made first-team appearances and won the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup titles, achieving significant early honors in his career.
