Christian Nergou joins Everton, signing a contract until 2028.

Everton have officially announced the completion of a major signing, officially acquiring Danish midfielder Christian Nergaard from Arsenal. The two sides have signed a two-year contract until June 2028. Details of the transfer fee were not disclosed. This experienced defensive midfielder has made 41 appearances for the Danish national team and won the Premier League title with Arsenal. His arrival will further enhance Everton's midfield strength and experience.  

After completing his transfer, Christian Nergo said in an interview with Everton's official website: "I am very excited and happy to be a part of Everton. There are many reasons for choosing to come here, the most important of which is that I hope to take on new challenges and play a greater role in the team."

Speaking about the atmosphere at Everton's home ground, Christian Nergo said: "I really look forward to wearing an Everton shirt and standing on the pitch at home, experiencing the passion of the fans firsthand. Goodison Park has always been an impressive stadium, and every time I come here to play, I can feel the deafening cheers, as if the whole stadium is shaking."  

"Later, when I came to the team's new home stadium, I was initially a little worried because many clubs lose their unique atmosphere after moving into a new stadium. But it's completely different here. The new stadium is still full of passion, which surprised me. I can clearly feel that the spirit and culture of Goodison Park have been carried on here."  

Christian Nergaard was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and made his professional debut at Lyngby at the age of 17. He then moved to Germany to join Hamburg, but soon returned to his homeland, transferring to Brøndby in the summer of 2013. There, he not only became the team's captain but also led them to numerous championship titles. After five seasons with Brøndby, Nergaard began his overseas career, joining Serie A side Fiorentina before moving to English club Brentford a year later.  

During his six years at Brentford, Christian Nergog was an indispensable core figure for the team. His consistent performances on the pitch and his leadership in the dressing room made significant contributions. He witnessed and participated in one of the club's most glorious periods, later becoming captain. Until his departure in July 2025, he made 196 official appearances for Brentford, 122 in the Premier League, contributing 13 goals and 18 assists.  

The 2025/26 season marked a pivotal moment in Christian Nergow's career. During his time at Arsenal, he helped the team win the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, while also reaching the finals of the Champions League and the English League Cup, ultimately finishing as runners-up in both competitions, creating a memorable season for the club.  

Speaking about his leadership abilities, Christian Nergo said: "I have always believed that leadership is one of my most important qualities. This ability has become a part of my game and my life, and I hope to bring it to Everton, integrate it into the existing culture of the team, and grow together with my teammates."

Last season, the team was consistently competitive for European qualification, and I hope to build on that and achieve even better results this season.
