The Suns waived Haywood Highsmith to free up a roster spot.

August 13 - According to HoopsHype reporter Michael Scotto , the Phoenix Suns have waived forward Haywood Highsmith to free up a roster spot.

Highsmith joined the Suns in February of this year , shortly after being waived by the Brooklyn Nets. Since joining, he has played 7 games for the Suns, averaging 5.4 points per game in a total of 91 minutes.

Highsmith previously underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee and missed a significant amount of time. Under his original contract, he was to earn $3 million next season , but this contract was not fully guaranteed. It would only become fully guaranteed if he remained with the team until January 10 , 2027 .

After waiving Highsmith, the Suns gained a roster spot. The team has not yet revealed whether this move is related to potential new additions, or it may simply be a way to preserve roster flexibility. The Suns have previously opted to leave a roster spot open while awaiting suitable reinforcements.

After leaving the Suns, 29- year-old Highsmith will become a free agent and continue to look for a fourth NBA team in his career.
