Hull City have officially announced the signing of French midfielder Lucas Gourner-Duvart. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder, formerly of Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, has joined Hull City on a transfer, with the exact transfer fee not yet disclosed. The two sides have signed a five-year contract, which will run until the summer of 2031.
This tall midfielder made 95 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg, 24 of which were in European competitions, including 17 appearances in the Champions League group stage. The 2022/23 season was a pivotal period in his Salzburg career, as he played 21 league matches for the team, helping them win their 17th Austrian top-flight title.
In recent seasons, Lucas Gourner-Duarte has left Red Bull Salzburg on loan several times. In the 2024/25 season, he was loaned to Serie A side Roma. Last season, the French midfielder returned to his homeland, joining Le Havre and making 15 appearances for the club.
Lucas Goulner-Duarte was born in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, France, and was trained in the Saint-Étienne youth academy at a young age. His outstanding performances quickly earned him a place in the first team, where he made 65 appearances and scored his first of his three professional goals against Marseille.
In July 2022, Lucas Günter-Duwart, then only 18 years old, left Saint-Étienne to join Red Bull Salzburg, becoming at one point the most expensive player to transfer in Austrian football. Just one month after joining the team, he was briefly loaned to Austrian second division side Leverlin.
At the national team level, Lucas Goulner-Duarte has represented France at the U16, U17, U18, U19, and U21 levels, serving as captain in four of those age groups. To date, he has made 34 appearances for the French youth national teams at various levels.
Speaking about joining Hull City, Lucas Gourner-Duarte said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s been a long process from the first call from the club to the final signing. Now that everything is finally settled, I can’t wait to start this new journey. I know that Hull City is a very united and family-like club, and I believe that playing in front of the fans will be a very special experience. I look forward to having a great time here.”
"The Premier League is undoubtedly one of the top leagues in the world, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to represent Hull City in such a competition. I enjoy winning back possession through aggressive pressing and tackling, and I also enjoy the feeling of controlling the ball. I hope to help the team play the ideal football in my own way. No matter what kind of opponent we face, I will give my all for the club's crest and the fans."
“I feel very fortunate to have had these experiences and have learned a lot from them. I previously had the opportunity to play in the Champions League, Serie A and Ligue 1, and these high-level competitions gave me valuable experience. Now, I hope to bring what I have learned to the Premier League. The Premier League has always been a dream stage for many footballers, and I am very excited to be able to actually stand there and play. I can’t wait to start a new journey.”
