During the 2026 offseason, the reigning NBA champion New York Knicks have largely retained their championship core, with 33-year-old veteran center Andre Drummond being the only notable new face.
The signing of Drummond is intended to replace Mitchell Robinson, the veteran center who moved to the Boston Celtics, and serve as Karl-Anthony Towns' main backup.
Drummond grew up in the suburbs of New York City and has been a Knicks fan since childhood. Last season, when he played for the Philadelphia 76ers and was swept by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals, he foresaw the team's dominance.
Speaking about joining the team, Drummond said, "After the series ended, I told my friends that they really might pull through and win the championship. And sure enough, they did."
"Considering my current stage of my career and this team's recent championship victory, plus my joining, veteran leadership, and the help I can provide, coming here is the most logical decision for me and my family."
Facing a defending roster with almost all members remaining, Drummond admitted, "I feel like an outsider trying to fit in, but my teammates are all very enthusiastic." Knicks captain Jalen Brunson publicly expressed his full support: "Andre didn't come here to become the second Mickey; he came to be himself, and we must give him confidence."
As a four-time league rebounding champion, Drummond has also developed an outside threat in recent years. Drummond confidently summarized, "I can still rebound efficiently, and with the addition of three-point shooting, I can also defend pick-and-rolls well. I've always been a great locker room glue, and bringing all of these together is why I've been able to stay in the league for so long."
