The fourth round of Group C matches in the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League will take place, with Croatia hosting World Cup champions Spain. Modric stated that he hopes the "Checkered Ones" will continue to receive support from the fans and hopes for a positive response during this challenging time.
In the third round of the group stage, Croatia suffered a crushing 0-7 defeat to England after conceding goals in both halves. Bilic's team is currently ranked 3rd in Group C.
Croatian captain Luka Modric said at a press conference, "Losing itself is not the problem; the problem is the way we lost. I hope the fans will support us as usual, and they can judge us based on our performance after the game."
"This is exactly what we need right now. We desperately want a positive response because this has hurt us more than ever before."
On the Spanish side, the "La Roja" defeated the Czech Republic 3-1 in the third round of the group stage, thanks to goals from Yamal, Rodri, and Merino, extending their unbeaten streak to 41 games. Therefore, facing a high-spirited Spain will be a very tough test for Croatia.
Modric stated, "Spain is the best team in the world right now; they are the world champions. I don't know how Spain will view our defeat, but we all know that what happened is not the normal performance for Croatia."
"To play against the best team in the world, we must get everything in order, be aggressive, and not give them too much space to find ways to score."
In addition, the 41-year-old Modric has made 205 appearances for Croatia.
Regarding his future with his national rivals, Modric said, "We'll play one game at a time, and whether I leave the national team in a year or a month, we'll see."
"For me, it's important to be in a place that makes me happy. Whether on or off the field, I'm always ready to offer my help."
