Le Havre announced on their official website on Saturday that West Bromwich Albion's Nigeria international striker Josh Maja has joined the club on a free transfer.
According to Le Havre's official statement, Maja has signed on a short-term one-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027, with an option to extend for a further year. He will also wear the number 9 jersey.
It's worth mentioning that this will actually be Maja's second spell playing in the Ligue 1. He previously played for Bordeaux from 2019 to 2023.
About Josh Maja
The 27-year-old Maja was born on December 27, 1998, in Lewisham, a town in southeast London, England. He is 1.81 meters tall, plays as a striker, and holds dual British and Nigerian citizenship.
Maja played for the youth academies of Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Manchester City during his childhood. He joined Sunderland's youth academy in 2015 and completed his Sunderland first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a League Cup match against Queens Park Rangers the following September.
During his two-and-a-half-year spell with the Black Cats, Maja gained widespread attention for his outstanding performances and a surge in popularity after appearing in the Netflix documentary Sunderland Til' I Die.
In January 2019, Maja joined Bordeaux for £1.5 million.
During his five years at Bordeaux, Maja was selected once for the Ligue 2 Team of the Year. He also had loan spells at Fulham and Stoke City.
After his contract expired in the summer of 2023, Maja joined West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer.
During his three years with the Baggies, Maja made 81 appearances for the EFL Championship club in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 3 assists.
