Premier League – Isak scores twice as Liverpool beat Ipswich Town 2-0

In the third round of the 2026/27 Premier League season, Liverpool, playing at Portman Road, defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 thanks to two goals from Isak.

Six minutes into the game, Gakopo made a through pass into the penalty area, Isak controlled the ball, took a few steps, and then fired a shot into the net, giving Liverpool a dream start with a 1-0 lead.

In the 9th minute, Gakopo delivered a diagonal pass, and Isak received the pass before breaking through the defense in the penalty area and firing a low shot into the net, helping Liverpool maintain their 2-0 lead over Ipswich. In the 10th minute, Liverpool midfielder McAllister fouled N'Ciso while vying for possession and was therefore shown a yellow card by the referee.

In the 11th minute, Ipswich Town attempted a counter-attack. Abdel Fattah received a pass from Enciso and unleashed a long-range shot, but the ball went over the goal. In the 19th minute, Enciso received the ball and took a long-range shot from near the penalty area, but it was saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

In the 20th minute, McAllister played a long pass, and Szoboszlai, outside the penalty area, followed up with a long-range shot, but it was saved by Ipswich goalkeeper Sher Scherpen. Three minutes later, Gakpo organized an attack, and Szoboszlai received the ball and entered the edge of the penalty area before firing a long-range shot, but it was again blocked by Sher Scherpen.

In the 32nd minute, McAllister received a pass from Wirtz and took a long-range shot, but the ball went over the post. In the 33rd minute, Wirtz dribbled forward and passed the ball diagonally, and Isak stepped up and pushed the ball into the net, but the goal was disallowed due to offside.

In the 40th minute, Szoboszlai received a pass from Wirtz outside the penalty area and took a long-range shot, but it was cleared by Ipswich goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen. In the 42nd minute, Jeremy Jacquet passed back to Wirtz, who unleashed a volley from distance, but Kjell Scherpen immediately dived to collect the ball.

Shortly after the start of the second half, Liverpool created an attacking opportunity. Wirtz received the ball and fired a shot from the penalty area, but it was blocked by an opposing player. Shortly after, Szoboszlai chipped the ball into the penalty area, and McAllister's header was cleared by Ipswich goalkeeper Sher Scherpen.

In the 56th minute, Abdel Fattah received a pass from Enciso and took a long-range shot, but the ball went wide of the post. In the 64th minute, Liverpool substituted new signing Barkola for Victor Muñoz, and Hrafinbech for Isak.

In the 69th minute, Szoboszlai was brought down by an opposing player while dribbling forward, but after VAR intervention, it was determined that Szoboszlai was offside, therefore no penalty was awarded. In the 77th minute, Barkola passed the ball across, and Gakopo's shot from inside the penalty area was blocked.

In the 86th minute, Issa Diop passed the ball to Jack Clark, who took a long-range shot from outside the penalty area, but it was blocked by an opposing player. In stoppage time of the second half, Abdel Fattah crossed the ball to Casey McAteer, who followed up with a long-range shot, but it was saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

Liverpool ultimately defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 away from home.
