Levadiakos announced on their official website on Wednesday that former Arsenal Egypt international defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny has joined the club on a free transfer.
According to Levadiakos' official statement, Elneny has signed a short-term contract with the Greek Super League side which will only run until the end of the current season.
About Mohamed Elneny
The 34-year-old Mohamed Elneny was born on July 11, 1992, in El Mahalla, Egypt. He is 1.79 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder.
Elneny joined the youth academy of local powerhouse Al Ahly at a young age before moving to the youth academy of Egyptian giants Al Mokawloon in 2008, where he became teammates with future Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah.
Both Elneny and Salah made their first-team debuts in late August 2010, quickly establishing themselves as key players in the senior squad.
In January 2013, Elneny joined Basel on an initial loan deal with a mandatory purchase clause, reuniting with Salah, who had moved to the club a year earlier.
During the loan spell, the duo helped Basel win the Swiss Super League title and gained international recognition through their outstanding performances in the UEFA Champions League.
In July of that year, Basel officially purchased Elneny's rights. After becoming a permanent player, he spent two and a half years at the club, helping the team win three consecutive Swiss Super League titles.
In January 2016, Elneny joined Arsenal for a fee of £7.4 million, becoming the first Egyptian player in the Gunners' team history of the "Gunners."
Despite facing stiff competition and challenges at the Emirates Stadium, and even a loan spell at Beşiktaş during the 2019/20 season, Elneny consistently delivered solid performances whenever called upon; unfortunately, however, the Egyptian international has been plagued by injuries throughout his time with Arsenal.
During his eight-year tenure with the Gunners, Elneny won the FA Community Shield twice and the FA Cup once with the reigning Premier League champions, while also reaching the finals of the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Europa League on one occasion each.
After leaving upon the expiration of his contract in the summer of 2024, Elneny joined Al Jazira as a free agent.
Over his two-year spell with the UAE Pro League powerhouse, Elneny made 61 appearances for Al Jazira across all competitions, scored three goals, provided four assists, and helped the team win the UAE League Cup once.
