Former Spanish international and Barcelona legend Pedro officially announced his retirement on Wednesday, ending his nearly 20-year professional career.
Pedro has been unemployed since his contract with Lazio expired in July. He finally decided to retire at the age of 39, explaining through the X platform: "I feel the time has come. It's time to take a step and start a new chapter in my life. I leave with the pride of realizing my dream and sincerely thank everyone who supported me and helped me achieve my dream. Thank you, football, for making me so happy."
Pedro primarily plays as a right winger, but can also play as a left winger, attacking midfielder, and center forward. He joined Barcelona's youth academy from San Isidro at the age of 17 and made his first-team debut in La Liga on January 12, 2008.
To date, Pedro has played for Barcelona, Chelsea, Roma, and Lazio at the club level. He won three Champions League titles, two Club World Cup titles, five La Liga titles, three UEFA Super Cup titles, three Copa del Rey titles, and four Spanish Super Cup titles with Barcelona, and helped Chelsea win one Europa League title, one Premier League title, and one FA Cup title.
At the national team level, Pedro also made significant contributions. He represented Spain 65 times, scoring 17 goals and providing 11 assists, and helped the team win the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.
