Xabi Alonso wants Chelsea to improve in both attack and defense.

Following the international break, the 2026/27 Premier League season will kick off its sixth round of matches, with Chelsea hosting Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. Xabi Alonso, in an interview, stated that his team must improve in both attack and defense.

After a 0-3 away defeat to Brentford in their last league match, Chelsea are currently 10th in the standings with 7 points, having only managed 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses in their last 5 games.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, lost 0-1 to Liverpool in their last match and are currently 17th in the league standings. As for head-to-head records, Chelsea have won 2 and drawn 3 of their last 5 encounters with Bournemouth.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said, "I can sense that things will gradually get better, but as of now, our performance is far from good enough."

“We had some positive moments, but there are also many areas that need improvement. This is reflected not only in the result of the game, but also in the process of the game, especially in terms of conceding goals.”

Xabi Alonso emphasized, "This is where we hope to improve, but the current problem is not only on the defensive end, but also on the offensive end, because the way we attack also affects our defensive performance."

"The team is still in the development and integration stage in many aspects. In this process of gradual improvement, there are both positive aspects and shortcomings, so we need to be more stable."
