Athletic Bilbao has officially extended the contract of Yuri Berchiche until June 2027.

Yuri Berchiche performed admirably in the recently concluded 2025/26 season, making 39 appearances for the team, and is about to begin his ninth season with Athletic Bilbao. The player has signed a one-year contract extension, valid until June 30, 2027.  

The 36-year-old left-back maintained a consistent performance throughout the recently concluded season, making 39 appearances, 35 of which were starts. The contract extension signing ceremony took place on Friday at the San Mamés Stadium, witnessed by club president Jon Uriat and football director Mikel González.  

The Salauz-born player will be entering his ninth season with Athletic Bilbao's first team. He returned to the club from Paris Saint-Germain in the 2018/19 season, and this return also means he is back in the Lyzama youth academy, where he spent two years training.  

Yuri Berchiche has become a regular starter at left-back for the team. To date, he has made 278 appearances for Athletic Bilbao, contributing 15 goals and numerous assists. His tenacity and fighting spirit have earned him the respect of fans, and he has won important trophies with the team, including the 2024 Copa del Rey and the 2021 Spanish Super Cup.
