Japan cruised to a 4-0 victory over Tunisia in their second Group F match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico at the Monterrey Stadium on Saturday.
In the first half, Daichi Kamada slotted home from close range, Takehiro Tomiyasu's deflected shot was brilliantly saved, and Ayase Ueda scored with a long-range effort. In the second half, Junya Ito tapped the ball into an empty net. Ueda then headed home a crucial goal. Ultimately, Japan celebrated the 1000th World Cup match with a resounding 4-0 win. After this round of matches, the Samurai Blue temporarily rise to second place on the group with 4 points; Tunisia remains at the bottom with 0 points and faces early elimination from the tournament.
First Half
In the 2nd minute, Elias Achouri threw in a ball, Hannibal Mejbri got the ball and took a few steps before taking a right-footed long shot from outside the penalty area, but his shot just slightly wide of the top right corner of the post.
2 minutes later, Keito Nakamura passes horizontally from the byline at the left side of the box. Upon receiving the pass, Daichi Kamada slotted the ball into the lower center of the net with his right foot from a very close distance in the box. Japan broke the deadlock first to take an early 1-0 lead with lighting fast speed!
In the 6th minute, Takehiro Tomiyasu delivered a long pass from his own back half. After beating the offside trap, Ayase Ueda quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a left-footed half-volley long shot from just outside of the penalty area, but his shot flew high and went out of the pitch.
4 minutes later, Ueda's horizontal pass from the right side of the box created a very dangerous shooting opportunity, but fortunately, the pass was timely blocked off the goal line by Dylan Bronn!
Shortly after, Ueda's right-footed shot from the right side of the box was deflected by his teammate Takehiro Tomiyasu, and then brilliantly saved off the goal line by Tunisia goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen and then blocked by his outstretched leg! Japan missed a golden opportunity to extend their lead!
In the 31st minute, Japan launched a deadly quick counter-attack. Ko Itakura intercepted the ball and made a straight pass from his own back half. Ueda quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before taking a right-footed long shot from outside the penalty area. His shot flew straight into the bottom left corner of the net, extending Japan's lead to 2-0!
At halftime, Japan temporarily enter the break leading Tunisia by 2-0.
Second Half
The two teams switched sides. In the 48th minute, Ueda passed the ball back from the attacking third, and Aoi Tanaka controlled it on the edge of the penalty area before firing a right-footed shot that went just wide of the bottom left post.
In the 63rd minute, Kamada passes horizontally from the left wing. Ueda got the ball and took a few steps before taking a right-footed long shot from just outside of the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by Montassar Talbi.
6 minutes later, Ueda played an overhead pass from near the midfield center circle. After beating the offside trap, Junya Ito quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the center of the box before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of the empty net past the outrushing Dahmen, further extending Japan's lead to 3-0!
In the 83rd minute, Japan launched a deadly quick counter-attack. Kaishu Sano crossed from the right side of the box, where the totally unmarked Ueda rose high and headed the ball into the net with ease, sealing a 4-0 victory for Japan!
When the final whistle is blown, Japan comfortably thumped Tunisia 4-0.
