Benfica officially announce the signing of Atlético Madrid's France international center-back Clément Lenglet..

Benfica announced on their official website on Wednesday that they have signed France international center-back Clément Lenglet from Atlético Madrid.

According to Benfica's official statement, Lenglet has signed on a three-year contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.

Lenglet will join the Portuguese Primeira Liga giants on-loan for the first year, after which the remaining two years of his contract will be converted to a permanent transfer.

After completing the transfer, Lenglet, who was interviewed by the Benfica official website for the frst time, said: "This seems like a very good opportunity for my career. This is a club that aims to win titles, both domestically and internationally. And that's exactly what I want. So I decided to come here."

About Clément Lenglet

The 31-year-old Lenglet was born on June 17, 1995, in Beauvais, France. He is 1.86 meters tall and plays as a center-back.

Lenglet joined Nancy' youth academy in 2010, began playing for their B team in 2012, before completing his Nancy first-team debut by coming on as a substitute the following September.

During his three-and-a-half-year spell at Nancy, Lenglet won one Ligue 2 title with the club.

In January 2017, Lenglet joined Sevilla for €5 million.

During his year-and-a-half spell at Los Nervionenses, Lenglet received high praise from ESPN for his outstanding performances in the UEFA Champions League.

The following July, Lenglet moved to Barcelona for €35 million.

During his four-year spell at the Blaugrana, Lenglet won one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey title, and one Supercopa de España title with the club.

From the summer of 2022, Lenglet was successively loaned-out to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

In August 2024, Lenglet joined Atlético Madrid on-loan. He later permanently transferred to Atléti as a free agent after his contract with Barcelona was terminated the following year.

During his two-year spell with Los Colchoneros, Lenglet made 60 appearances for the La Liga giants in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists, and helped the team reach the Copa del Rey final once.
