Liverpool played a friendly at Soldier's Stadium in Chicago, and after goals from Luke Chambers and Wirtz, they conceded two goals in the second half, ultimately losing 2-4 to Leeds United. Szoboszlai stated that the team needs to learn from the positives and improve their defense on set pieces.
Szoboszlai took a corner in the 7th minute, and Luke Chambers received a pass from Kelkez Milos before slotting the ball home to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead. In the 40th minute, Frimpong passed the ball back from the penalty area, and Wirtz, despite the defense, fired a shot into the net, extending Liverpool's lead over Leeds United to 2-0.
In the 60th minute of the second half, Ethan Ampadu delivered a diagonal pass, and Brundon Allensen scored with a low shot, helping Leeds United pull one back to 1-2. In the 71st minute, Joe Rodon headed the ball across, and Calvert-Lewin slotted it home, leveling the score at 2-2 for Leeds United.
In the 73rd minute, Brendon Allensen passed back to Longstaff, who followed up with a low shot to give Leeds United a 3-2 lead. In the 85th minute, Sebastian Bornau headed the ball to Calvert-Lewin, who headed it into the net to make it 4-2.
Liverpool ultimately lost 2-4 to Leeds United.
Liverpool midfielder Szoboszlai said, "I think we should reflect on the past two weeks, not just one game. During this time, we've gotten to know each other better. Some players joined later, and some teammates didn't even participate in this training camp."
“We have also gotten to know the head coach and his coaching staff better. Overall, it has been a very good two weeks. We have learned a lot from the two wins and one loss, and now it’s time to move on.”
Szoboszlai pointed out, "Even in defeat, we must see the positive side. I know this wasn't our best game since the new coach took over, but we've only played three games so far. We completely controlled the game in the first half and were leading 2-0. Although we ultimately lost 2-4, we can only move forward."
“Now we know that two of the goals we conceded came from set pieces, so we have to pay more attention to these details. It was the same last season; every set piece, whether it was a corner or a throw-in, became crucial. I believe the new season will be the same, so we must be prepared.”
Szoboszlai also stated, "When defending set pieces, everyone must fulfill their responsibilities. As long as everyone does their job, we won't concede a goal. We are all ordinary people, and making mistakes is inevitable. But what's more important is how we respond after making a mistake."
In addition, Szoboszlai said, "It is very important for young players to train with the first team. Everyone performed very well and enjoyed the experience. Everyone got playing time."
“McAllister will be back soon, as will Van Dijk and Alisson. The whole team will quickly regroup and prepare for the challenges of the new season.”
