Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 away in their final Premier League match on Sunday. Manager Mikel Arteta admitted during the subsequent trophy-lifting ceremony that ending the club's 22-year wait for the Premier League title and personally lifting the trophy was even more incredible than he had imagined.
Although Arsenal had already secured the league title last Tuesday, the team didn't officially hold the trophy-lifting ceremony until after the 38th match of the season. Unlike previous titles, this trophy was lifted at Selhurst Park in south London, marking the first time since 2004 that Arsenal's ribbon has been tied to the Premier League trophy.
Arteta said excitedly after the match: "It's a wonderful feeling. I've imagined this moment in my mind many times, but I never expected it to be so grand, so beautiful, and I never expected to see so much joy and pride in everyone and in the hearts of our fans. I just want to enjoy this moment today, at least today."
Over the next seven days, Arsenal will travel to Budapest for the Champions League final. Arteta commented, "I thought we would win at the Emirates Stadium, but it happened in a way that was completely different from anyone's expectations."
"Tomorrow we will begin preparing for the final in Budapest, and I can't wait to write a new chapter in the club's history. We will bring all our energy, positive mindset, and confidence to the field and win that game."
